Blogspiration #3: Before I Fall

Blogspiration is a new weekly meme hosted by both GrowingUp YA and Saz101. The meme was created to help spark inspiration among bloggers, readers and writers alike. An inspirational quote/picture/video is posted weekly, on the day of the author's choosing, so that it may inspire creativity, conversation and just a little SOMETHING.

This week Sarah and Kristin asked "What book inspires you?" The obvious choice for me would have been Harry Potter, simply because no other book has ever meant as much to me, and no other book ever will. Since I used a quote from Harry Potter in my last Blogspiration post, and since Sarah used Harry Potter this week, I decided to go with the second most inspirational book I have read - Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (my review).

“Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there's a tomorrow. Maybe for you there's one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers. So much time you can waste it. But for some of us there's only today. And the truth is, you never really know.”

“The last laugh, the last cup of coffee, the last sunset, the last time you jump through a sprinkler, or eat an ice-cream cone, or stick your tongue out to catch a snowflake.
You just don't know.”

Lauren Oliver's writing is just so darn beautiful. She has a magical way with words, making even the simplest statement sound like poetry, and I love it. Like I said in my review, Before I Fall is everything a novel should be. It is moving, inspiring, romantic, frustrating, heartbreakingly sad, and yet incredibly optimistic. It made me think. About how we all influence the lives around us, about how we never really know which day will be our last, and about how important it is to live life to the fullest. It was a wake-up call for me, as I am sure it was for many others.

Which books inspire you?

That sounds like an awesome book! I've been wanting to read it for a very long time now, but just hadn't had the chance too. But I bought Delirium by Lauren Oliver this week, so I'm probably going to start with this one soon.

Oh, and I'd totally choose Harry Potter, too, for the same reasons that you mentioned. The second book on my list would probably be The Fault in Our Stars by John Green though. I've not been impressed by a book like this for a very long time.

This book was so well done without being heavy handed. I love the inspiration from that quote without it being shoved down your throat. Sooooo good.

I agree that her writing is just so darn beautiful.

For me, the books that inspire me the most are Patrick Ness's books and John Green's books.

Aaaawww! I'm sorry, I feel like I've robbed you! I was secretly hoping EVERYONE was going to answer 'Harry Potter' and we could have a convention XD

Oooh, I love your answer, and your reasons why! My bestfriend read this one, and I know she didn't like it all, but you make it sounds so, SO beautiful! I've been intrigued by this one for a while. It sounds gorgeous and sad and bittersweet and aaaah! Wonderful answer xx

Oooh, Lauren Oliver is coming to Sydney next month! Exciting!

Oooooooh! I've heard a lot of really great things about this book!!!

And Wow...you definitely just sold it. It sounds like this book delivers a really powerful message!! It's times like these that I REALLY dislike being on a book-ban!

Thank you so much, Nina!!

I love those quotes, so beautiful!
I've read it a while back (a few years in fact) and I don't remember much about it, but I know that back then I really liked it. (sometimes I hate the fact that at the beginning I didn't use to write down some words about the books I read, it would be nice to remember more about what I liked in those stories.)

Happy midnight reading!
